What started a giving movement?
Hello everyone, my name is Juliette, and I am the founder of Recovere. I’m so grateful you’re here reading my new blog, 'Donation Diaries'.
The journey behind both GIVIT and Recovere began with a deeply personal moment. I was determined to find a home for my son’s baby clothes and give them to someone who truly needed them. After weeks of contacting organisations and searching, I was still unsuccessful in finding a single charity willing to take them. It was a frustrating and eye-opening experience. I realised that charities didn’t have an easy way to meet the everyday needs of their clients, they also didn’t have warehouses magically stocked with everything people might require, and honestly, donors (like me) were terrible at guessing what people really needed.
That moment sparked the idea for GIVIT, a platform I created in 2009 to bridge the gap between generosity and genuine need.
GIVIT has become a lifeline for Australian charities, schools, and community organisations. It’s now an award-winning platform that connects donors with genuine needs, providing a seamless way to help during disasters and emergencies. I’m incredibly proud of the innovative model we built, which has facilitated over 8.5 million items, empowering Australians to give in a smart and meaningful way.
Recovere is the next chapter—a global platform built on the same principles. It started with a simple yet profound realisation – the traditional approach to global humanitarian aid often falls short. The well-intentioned donations sometimes miss the mark, causing more harm than good.
For years, I’ve been contacted directly by international communities affected by disasters, struggling under the burden of unsolicited donations wanting my help as donations, though well-meaning, often create a “second disaster” by overwhelming aid agencies with items they cannot use.
Recovere aims to bridge a gap, ensuring that every act of generosity meets real, specific needs. Together, we can create a better way to give—one that empowers communities, reduces waste, and ensures people get exactly what they need when they need it the most.
Thank you for joining me on this journey.
