Homa Bay County Community Action for Health and Development (CAHED) is responding to the urgent needs of families displaced by recent floods in Homa Bay County, Kenya. Many households have lost their homes, food supplies, school materials and essential belongings. The most vulnerable, including children, people with disabilities and the elderly, have been hardest hit. Through this request, CAHED is mobilising support to provide essential relief items using flexible and accessible approaches. Assistance can be provided through voucher funding, courier delivery of supplies, or direct drop-offs from donors, ensuring support reaches affected communities quickly and safely. The requested support will help families access food and clean water, basic household items such as bedding and cooking utensils, hygiene and sanitation supplies, and clothing and school materials for children. Our goal is to restore dignity, meet immediate needs and support families as they begin to recover. With your support, we can reach those most in need and ensure no one is left behind during this crisis.

Tropical Cyclone Maila struck the Solomon Islands at Category 5 intensity in early April 2026, leaving Western and Choiseul Provinces under a State of Disaster. Storm surges and flooding swept away homes, destroyed food gardens across multiple wards, and damaged infrastructure throughout communities already difficult to reach by sea. With WASH systems damaged across affected areas and remote communities still cut off by dangerous swells, there is significant risk of waterborne disease outbreaks.

The HADR Institute is seeking funds to procure water filters for distribution to affected households through its partner, the Development Services Exchange (DSE), the NDMO-appointed coordination body on the ground in Solomon Islands. Water filters provide an immediate, community-level solution that requires no infrastructure, no fuel, and no technical support to operate. As formal WASH rehabilitation will take months, filters represent one of the most cost-effective interventions available right now to prevent a secondary health crisis from compounding an already severe disaster.
