Dear Supporter, At the Mthunzi Foundation, we work with teenage girls and young mothers who are facing some of life’s hardest challenges far too early. Many of these young women experience early pregnancy while still at school, and sadly, many are then excluded from continuing their education. Without support, they are left facing a future limited by poverty, stigma, and a lack of opportunity. We believe education is the foundation for independence, dignity, and hope. Every girl deserves the chance to learn, grow, and build a brighter future for herself and her child. As a newly established non-government organisation, the Mthunzi Foundation is committed to supporting teenage girls and young mothers through access to education, skills training, and practical assistance. However, we cannot do this alone. Today, we are reaching out to kindly ask for donations of shorts for the young women we support. Many of the girls arrive with very limited clothing and basic necessities. Comfortable, practical shorts would make a meaningful difference to their daily lives, helping them feel confident, cared for, and able to participate in school and training activities with dignity. Many of these young mothers are unable to return to the classroom, limiting their chances of building a secure and independent future. At Mthunzi Foundation, we believe education changes everything. When a girl can continue learning, she gains confidence, independence and the opportunity to create a better life for herself and her child. Without that support, her future becomes much more uncertain. A simple baby carrier can make a real difference. It allows young mothers to safely carry their babies while attending school or training, giving them a better chance to continue their education and work towards a brighter future.

They help young mothers safely feed and care for their babies, making daily life more manageable and giving them a better chance to stay engaged in school or training.

In remote communities across Dowa District in Malawi, many children are trying to go to school without proper clothing. It’s not just uncomfortable, it affects how they feel about themselves. Some children feel embarrassed, lose confidence, and sometimes stop going altogether because they are afraid of being laughed at. They can sometimes manage without shoes. They can sometimes manage without a proper top. But they cannot go to school without pants. This is the simple, urgent need we are facing. With something as basic as a pair of shorts, a child can walk into school with dignity, feel confident, and stay in class. It may seem small, but for these children, it can make the difference between attending school or staying home. We urgently need shorts for children of all ages. Any size. Any colour.
