Help Us Fill Empty Shelves — Books and Reading Mats for 3,500 Rural Learners

Child First is a Malawian registered NGO with the Malawi Government supporting 5 rural primary schools in Lilongwe — Chitukula, Chimpumbulu, and Songwe with 3,500 learners.

Today, these 3 schools have no library. No storybooks. No reading mats. Children sit on dusty floors to read a single shared textbook. Most have never owned or borrowed a book.
Our Request: Books and Chats (Reading Mats)We are requesting:

Storybooks, Chichewa readers, and revision books for Standard 1-8 Reading mats / chats where children can sit together in reading circles, outside or inside the classroom

What your donation will do:
1 Book = 20 children will read it in one term. It stays in the school for 3+ years.
1 Chat/Mat = 30 children can sit comfortably to read, do homework and join girls' reading clubs after school.

This is not just about books. In our communities:
A book keeps a child in school instead of dropping out

A reading mat creates a safe space where Mother Groups teach girls to read and stay confident

Reading together builds teamwork, English, and imagination

Goal: To establish small reading corners in all 3 schools so 3,500 children can finally say, "We have a library. "Please support us with books or a chat. A small gift puts a book in the hands of a child who has been waiting to read.

SDK Deru (a Catholic private primary school) is one of 114 partner schools of Taman Bacaan Pelangi (TBP) in Nagekeo District, East Nusa Tenggara Province, Indonesia. Since 2022, the school has run a child-friendly library program in partnership with TBP, giving more than 100 students each year access to quality books and a love of reading. On 19 December 2025, tragedy struck when a fire destroyed the school library along with every book inside it. For students who had grown used to reading, borrowing, and dreaming through books, this loss was deeply felt. Today, they urgently need new, high-quality books so their learning journey can continue.
