How We Estimated The Carbon Emissions?
To estimate the carbon footprint used in the calculations, we devised an approach based on a few assumptions:
- The distance between two locations can be measured and flown directly via aeroplane.
- International shipping costs can be based on average distances and average costs per kg.
- The average CO2e of aeroplane transit that we established can be used as the emissions factor in our calculations.
- The average mobile phone consumes five watts for an hour every day of the year.
- The global average cost of a water bottle is relevant to the destination’s cost of bottled water.
- The CO2e offset from trees is constant throughout their life.
These foundational assumptions enable us to offer a simplified yet insightful estimation of the unintended environmental impact of donations.
